Sir,
RECEIVED MAY 6 768 Kon Colonial Department 107 1343 Council Chamber, Victoria, 311840 Honoury, January 2 1844.
When we did ourselves the honour to address you by instruction, we were not aware that Messrs Jamieson How & Co had made a previous application to you, nor did we intend that our letter No: 33 of the 24th should convey any such wish as that "a Naval Force should be stationed abreast of their Stores &c."
Besides the above explanation, I think it right to remark, to prevent future misconception, that you have been entirely misinformed as to Messrs Jamieson How & Co (or any other Firms similarly situated) erecting Buildings remote.
To Sir Thomas Cochrane, C.B.
